Every year the city that I live in celebrates the fiest of its patron saint, which falls on every third Sunday of January, this is a Spanish tradition which was passed on and embraced by the Filipinos. The streets are decorated with flaglets and people come out to party in the streets, they used for the street dancing and parade that is why main streets are closed to cars for the whole day and the whole city is shut down. It is more or like the same as in Brazil where they have their mardi gras, face painting, body painting and henna tattooing are just a few of the activities that happen during the day. A lot of the towns from all over the country join the street dancing contest, aside from the large amount of money they would get, they are also after the prestige of being the best. This is the best time for photographers from all over the city to show off their skills in this photo contest, and there is also a large amount of money that will be given to the winner. To give chance to a lot of photographers to win, there are a lot of categories for the photo contest, and all photos will be from the festival, and will need to fit the criteria’s in the category that they registered at. As long as you pay the small amount of registration fee and you have a camera , you are welcome to join. There are a lot of amateur photographers that join the contest, together with the professionals, and it is not always the pro’s that bag the prizes, once in a while an amateur hits the right lighting and angle and win’s the contest. These activities were all organized by the city government.
